About Lynne A Weikart
Professor Lynne Weikart received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in political science. Her current research focuses upon resource allocation in urban areas, as well as the budgeting process and gender issues. She is the author of several articles in these areas.
She has delivered lectures and presentations on urban issues at New York’s Nonprofit Connection, Progressive Urban Agenda for the New Millennium and International Center for Advanced Studies, various TV shows, and at numerous conferences including the Urban Affairs Association. She has been the recipient of several grants to evaluate the management and finances of nonprofits and the NYC school system. Professor Weikart won the Luther Gulick Award for Outstanding Academic, New York Metropolitan Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration in 2001.
Before her academic career, Professor Weikart held several high-level government positions including Budget Director of the Division of Special Education in New York City’s (NYC) public schools, and Executive Deputy Commissioner of NYS Division of Human Rights. For several years, she also served as the former Executive Director of City Project, a progressive fiscal think tank that focused upon reforming NYC’s resource allocation patterns.
She retired as an associate professor of Political Science at City University of New York, Baruch College, School of Public Affairs. She now resides in Charlottesville, Virginia where she teaches part-time at University of Virginia and conducts research in urban finance and politics.
